Brazil’s busiest passenger airport is Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport (Governor Andre Franco Montoro International Airport). Located just 16 miles east of Sao Paulo’s downtown area, the airport takes its name from the actual city that it sits, Guarulhos.
Guarulhos International Airport started operations in 1985, and today is the busiest airport in Brazil and second to El Dorado International Airport Bogota in all of Latin America. At present the airport has 2 parallel runways running east to west ( 9R/27L at 9843 ft and 9L/27R at 12,139 ft) with a third runway planned for the future.
Guarulhos International Airport has 2 terminals at present with 2 additional terminals planed for the future. Both terminals are within walking distance of one another, making connections easy. As well as 2 terminals the airport has a large ramp for cargo operations. Moving everything from fruit to electronics Guarulhos International has become the largest cargo terminal in South America and second to Mexico City Airport in all of Latin America.
