Malpensa Airport is Milan's largest airport in Italy. One of three airports in the city, Malpensa is only 40 kilometers away from central Milan. Linate Airport and Orio al Serio Airport are the other two, but they do not deal with as many passengers and cargo as Malpensa. When looking to fly to or from Milan, Malpensa Airport MXP/LIMC is the airport code associated with Malpensa Airport. This airport has a hotel, many duty-free shopping places, taxi services, an airport train, bus and convienient parking.
Many different airlines from around the world take and drop-off passengers to the world's fashion capital. Air France, Air China, Air Italy, American Airlines, Blue Panorama Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, El Al, KLM and Lufthansa are a few of the many airlines that come through Malpensa Airport.
Malpensa Airport only has two terminals. Terminal 1 has the most traffic, and this is where International, European and Domestic arrivals occur. Terminal 1A is for European and Domestic flights, while Terminal 1B is for International flights. Most all major airports and the two runways can be found here. The taxi services, airport shuttles, car rentals and train can be located in Terminal 1. There is also a shuttle bus that will take passengers to Terminal 2 if necessary. Terminal 2 is mainly for low cost carriers, like EasyJet. Terminal 1 has three levels where Level 0 is for arrivals, Level 1 is for departure gates, car hires and train, Level 2 is for check-ins and Level 3 has many restaurants for hungry passengers. The Sheraton Malpensa can be located on Level 2 in Terminal 1. There are also many hotels in close vicinity of the airport.
Their two runways, 17L/35R at 3,920 meters long and 17R/35L at 3,920 meters, are asphalt. However, a plan for a third terminal is in Malpensa's future, and completion is expected around 2012. The cargo terminal deals with over 400,000 tons of luggage and cargo a year. Malpensa Airport also helped around 19 million passengers get to their destinations in 2010.
As the 21st busiest airport in Europe, Malpensa's Airport is attracting more passengers arriving and departing Milan. Even though it only has two terminals, improvements and renovations are in the future, making it a more popular airport to visit. Milan, Italy is a wonderful place to visit for fashion, romance, education or work. Malpensa helps passengers transition between destinations easily and comfortably. |
